The “official” destination on our Epic Road Trip was Joseph, Oregon, for the summer’s Chief Joseph Days. The website humbly proclaims
Voted one of the best small outdoor rodeos in the USA!
Friends, you may wonder “Thea, why did you drive 3,500 miles away from Texas to attend a rodeo?” It’s a valid question.
I knew exactly nothing about rodeos, save the fact they involved humans riding and roping things at various speeds. As one of D’s extended family was actually *in* the rodeo, I couldn’t have asked for a better first time. There were dusty rings, non-ironic Native American Princesses, giant belt buckles and indeed impressive athletic feats. There was also a lot of yelling and plastic beer cups. Oh, yeah. I’m hoping the next one in my own new home state can live up to it.
