The Oregon Trail Begins

Sunset, Ft. Stockton

Sunset with purple martins in old Ft. Stockton

Well, folks, it looks like June did indeed get away from me; working and taking an intensive summer class overshadowed my photographic and writerly ambitions. I’m now officially on vacation, headed west on an Epic Road Trip up the west coast and across to the Rockies.

Our first stop was Historic Fort Stockton, TX, home of the 9th Cavalry Regiment Buffalo Soldiers barracks, old hotel and not-yet-completely-remodeled cocktail saloon [sadness]. After a night we pressed on west and have left the Lone Star State behind.

I’m continuing to develop my driving skills on the manual transmission, trying to stick to deserted highways and sleepy towns. We’ll see how far that works…

That’s the news for now, more to come shortly.
